IELTS

IELTS is an acronym for the International English Language Testing System.  IELTS tests English proficiency across the globe. Conducting over 3 million tests in 2017 globally, IELTS is the world’s most popular high-stakes English language proficiency test.

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP-IELTS Australia, and the University of Cambridge ESOL. Cambridge ESOL prepares the test, whereas British Council and IDP administer the tests at their centers or venues across the world.

Candidates can opt for either the IELTS Paper Based test or CD-IELTS (Computer Delivered) at the time of registering for the test. There is also IELTS-UKVI, which is the only test recognized by the UK Visa & Immigration. The test structure and duration are the same for all the versions. However, there is a slight variation in test fees.

There are two versions of IELTS tests – Academic IELTS and General Training Module. The Academic is for candidates interested in pursuing higher studies at universities where the medium of instruction is English. Certain professionals, especially from the healthcare sector like nurses or doctors, planning to emigrate to countries such as Australia or US usually need to take the Academic IELTS. IELTS General Training Module is for those interested in emigrating to English speaking countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK or USA for work purposes.

  • What about his English language skills?
  • Do you think the band score of 7.5 is appropriate?
  • We would like to hear from you. Please give your feedback on how Ashish did in the comments section below.
